Why Pluton Exists
Modern software stacks have grown heavily layered: high-level interpreted wrappers (Python) calling intermediate C++ bindings, which in turn dispatch to driver-level GPU APIs. While excellent for quick scripting, this abstraction introduces severe runtime nondeterminism:
- Garbage Collection & Jitter: Dynamic memory reclamation halts CPU execution threads, introducing latency spikes into real-time 60 FPS graphics loops and cross-node gradient synchronization.
- Global Interpreter Lock Bottlenecks: Python's GIL prevents seamless multi-threaded scheduling of custom byte-streams and tensor manipulations without dropping into external C extensions.
Pluton was architected to eliminate this abstraction debt. With native vector primitives, direct hardware accelerator discovery (hardware.gpu), built-in 2D/3D presentation pipelines, and an asynchronous TCP networking stack, Pluton executes full applications from a singular, clean binary runtime.
